Come on now take your
choice
stall too long
gonna lose your voice
you can think like a
merchant
or you can dream like a
king
try to do both
you might blow the whole

laugh when there’s plenty
cause you will cry when
it’s done

decide?
is the love worth your

or the money your pride?
maybe you’re just greedy
for that sweet extra kick
gotta a long way to do
gotta get there quick
you could keep what you’ve
got
or you could gamble for
more
better play hard
cause it’s a dangerous
sport
go for big stakes
you gotta run with the
pros
get in their way
take your dreams and your
dough
and you know that’s a
really
hard way to go
they smile while they do
it
hey this is all just a
game
if you’re playin for keeps
y’hafta stand for some
pain
don’t get excited
those are the rules
the winners are fighters
the losers are fools

take the next guy’s too
just don’t get caught
he might not like it
he might complain
might say money is nothing
or that love is in vain
and you might believe him
for a minute or two
listen too close
he’s gonna rob you

better keep that offer to
yourself
these things go fast
they don’t last on the
shelf
everybody wants ‘em
though no one knows what
they’re for
even folks that got ‘em
always want more
the love goes bad
or the money gets spent
then you’ve blown your
last kiss
and you’re down to one
cent
the setup’s the same
no it never will change
every sucker gets a chance
to cast one vote
they’ll trade one choice
for the other
and still believe they’re
getting both
that’s cause people just
can’t get along
without hope

is either really a prize?
money buys lawyers
lovers tell lies
romancers entrance
and some really are true
but that some is too few
too many die young
too many get screwed
and where money’s
concerned
this much as been learned
you can take what you want
and you can flaunt what
you make
but I have yet to meet the
man
well that the bank can’t
break

sine qua non
that means without which
nothing
as if you didn’t already
know

have you matched up that
pair?
got what you wanted?
have you taken your share?
it is a noble question
it is the ultimate test
you’ve got to live with
your decision
you can forget about the
rest

can't say I’m really
surprised
love’s great for poems
but who needs rhymes?
as a very wise man once
told me
“son, I don’t mean to be
blunt
but after all these years
of being so wise
my policy is
money up front”
I said
“you run with your money
I will have fun with my
love”
he said “we’ll both end up
with nothing
and it’s just not enough”

you've got yours and I’ve
got mine
and I know that you’re
laughing
so these’ll be the last
lines
as that wise man put it
love or money

is just a coupla words
you get the one that you
want
cause that’s the one you
deserve
some can’t tell the difference
their vision has been
blurred
and some
some want too much
they are the ones that get burned
